We’re thrilled to share that Ryder and Ella both cleared their OFA hips and elbows. Both have NORMAL elbows; Ella was evaluated with GOOD hips, and Ryder as FAIR. These tests, along with heart, eyes, and DNA, are always fingernail-biting times for responsible breeders as without clearances, the dogs we’ve chosen to keep in our breeding program should not be used to sire or carry any litters. Receiving good news from OFA is always a day for celebration (which, in our house, means ice cream – for all!).
As a reminder, OFA evaluates elbows as either normal, or with elbow dysplasia of grade I, II, or III. For hips, the range of evaluations are normal passing grades of Excellent, Good, or Fair; Borderline, and then failing grades of Mild, Moderate or severe dysplasia. For hips, the general consensus is to not breed a dog evaluated as Fair to another Fair dog.
